The Terraces

This Overlook Terrace remodel of an existing one story ranch takes advantage of 180 degree western views from downtown Portland north along Forest Park. Adding a second floor with a butterfly roof and continuous clerestory windows provides daylight and diverts the rain to garden cisterns. A new south-facing terrace deck over the existing garage extends from the family room. These computer models were used to determine appropriate overhang shading from summer to winter. Because the extraordinary views were into the summer evening sun a planting screen was proposed at the southwest corner.
