Alameda Brewing Co - 4765 NE Fremont St

The design for Alameda Brewing's headquarters allowed me to draw upon my familiarity with the hops plant and hop farming; I grew up working alongside my six brothers and sisters on my family's hop farm outside Mt. Angel OR. Artist Jim Meakin and I designed and fabricated a large hand-pounded copper hop flower/cone with bronze leaves to serve as a custom sign for the exterior. Industrial materials commonly used on the farm were repurposed as interior design elements: Galvanized sheeting faces the bar, defining the open brewing area, and wall panels of stenciled hopsack created with my brother Jerome line the walls. The uplit slatted booths are designed to simulate the feeling of sitting between rows of hop vines and resemble sheaves of grain.
